Going Green for the Hotel & Hospitality Industry

How much waste does the industry generate from the use of bottled water and drinks?
According to National Geographic, about 8 million tons of plastic waste are generated annually, and much of it make their way into the oceans. This not only contributes to environmental pollution; it also endangers the lives of both land and marine animals.

While several major hotel chains have since taken measures to reduce the use of plastic (such as ceasing the provision of mini plastic toiletries), the hospitality industry as a whole can still do much more to lessen waste.

There’s no denying that plastic harms the environment, which affects humans, too. Reducing the use of single-use plastics and eliminating plastic bottles in the tourism and hospitality industry can help reduce the environmental challenges and ocean plastic crisis we have today.

Singapore’s National Environment Agency also had the same advisory to hotels, with the recommendation to “provide filtered drinking water dispensers”, and to “offer bottled water only upon request.”
