Ultraviolet radiation: UVC water dispenser in Singapore

UVC radiation is known to be able to disinfect the air, water, and nonporous surfaces such as household appliances. Effectively reducing the spread of bacteria when in direct exposure to UVC radiation.
What is ultraviolet?
The word “ultra” means “beyond” in Latin, which translates ultraviolet to “beyond violet”. The reason for its name is that ultraviolet has a shorter wavelength and higher frequency than visible light. Therefore, ultraviolet can also be described as “beyond the violet end of the visible spectrum”. To put things into perspective, the reason why we can’t see UV lights is that human eyes can only see the wavelength of 380 – 700 nm, while the colour violet has a wavelength of 380 – 450 nm. Thus, anything “beyond’ that spectrum is invisible to us.
Fun fact: Infrared has a similar meaning, where “infra” means “below” in Latin.
Effectiveness of a UVC water dispenser
The main purpose of a UVC in a water dispenser is to remove microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses. The fundamental of it is that it kills the genetic materials of an organism, dampening its growth and development. It does it by breaking down the chemical bonds and disrupting the structure of its proteins, DNA, and RNA, thus disallowing a microorganism to multiply and reproduce. This is also why it is harmful to humans when in direct exposure to it. But there are also other types of UVs out there in the market, namely UVA, UVB, and UVC. Among the 3, UVC has the highest frequency of between 100 – 280nm which is the only one that can effectively kill microorganisms.
Inbuilt UVC water dispenser

There are a lot of UVC water dispensers in Singapore, but what sets Waterlogic’s Firewall™ (UVC) technology apart from its competitors is the unique design and position which enhances the overall disinfection process. It has a unique double-helix spiral design which allows the UVC radiation to be exposed to a larger surface area and for a much longer period. The smart placement of the UVC also allows it to purify water up to the dispensing nozzle, allowing the water to have maximum exposure to the UVC.
UVC system installation for conventional water dispenser
Besides Waterlogic’s Firewall™, there’s also an option of installing a UVC system to a non UVC water dispenser. When it comes to a UVC system, there are a few options to choose from depending on your needs. For starters, the flow rate and location (residential or commercial) play a big role in deciding on a suitable UVC system. As there are lots of options available, please contact us for more details.
